Nuance Speech2Go Reader
Mobile phone headsets provide you with hands-free operation, but what about when you need eyes-free operation? You may need to devote your attention to driving, operating machinery, or walking down a crowded street. Speech2Go Reader, from Nuance Communications, Inc., combines talking caller ID and short message service (SMS) reading functionalities. It automatically announces incoming calls and reads out your incoming text messages, allowing you to stay safely focused on the task at hand.
Calls are announced via speakerphone or through your Bluetooth headset — either by name (if the caller's name is listed in your address book) or by phone number. This allows you to screen your calls in situations where you don't have ready access to your handset. The application understands standard SMS abbreviations and converts them into plain, understandable speech. Reading of the message can be stopped with any key, and repeated as often as you like.
The application is currently available in English, Italian, French, German, and Spanish versions. Nuance plans to make it available in 15 more languages by the end of 2007. Speech2Go is available for all S60 3rd Edition devices, and for a wide variety of S60 2nd Edition devices. It leverages Nuance's state-of-the-art RealSpeak Mobile HQ text-to-speech technology to produce natural, accurate, and highly intelligible speech output.
